Excavata is designed with a privacy-first approach. Your excavation data is stored locally on your devices and is under your control at all times. We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide and improve the app.
All project data — including contexts, artifacts, samples, photos, and drawings — is stored locally on your device. Synchronisation between devices occurs directly over your local network using peer-to-peer connections. No excavation data passes through our servers unless you explicitly opt in to cloud backup.
If you choose to enable cloud backup, your project data is encrypted and stored securely on our servers. You can disable cloud backup at any time, and you may request deletion of all cloud-stored data by contacting us. Cloud backups are used solely for the purpose of restoring your data to your devices.
If you create an account, we collect your name and email address. This information is used to manage your account, provide support, and communicate important updates about the app. We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
We may collect anonymous usage statistics to help us understand how the app is used and to improve its features. This data does not include any excavation data or personally identifiable information. You can opt out of analytics in the app settings.
Excavata may access your device's GPS to tag photos and records with coordinates. Location data is stored only within your project data on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless included in a cloud backup you have enabled.
Excavata does not share your data with third-party services. If we integrate with third-party services in the future, we will update this policy and notify you before any data is shared.
Your local data remains on your device until you delete it. If you use cloud backup, backed-up data is retained until you request its deletion or delete your account. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry.
